The producers received a tape in which she performed in another video in which she performed MMA. They were curious if she was able to do sword fighting, and the next day she sent a video of fighting with swords. Jessica was aware that the role she was playing required training in weapons. After having read the script, she recorded her first lesson with an expert. Jonathan Glassner said that the stunt crew were amazed at how Jessica fared on her first day of training. She had never played a major role before in the US since all her films were shot in Australia. Jessica's love for action showcased in the role as she demonstrates mixed martial arts and horses riding abilities, as well as her athletic abilities and weapons. She can also perform her stunts in a way that portrays a strong female role model. She learned boxing, muay Thai as well as trains at an academy for mixed martial arts in Australia.
